Nobody should come to the Adirondacks expecting amazing food. You just left a congested city. You want amazing food, stay home.
Dining at Camp
Garden in back of upper garage provides beans, spices, lettuce, arugula, cherry tomatoes and in 2017, asparagus. Great farmers market on Saturday mornings in Saranac. Buy cheese from Aasgard and Sugar House there.
Great meat at Shaheens, in Tupper Lake. IGA, smallish market. Amazing local and regional beer selection. Limited Asian or specialty selections. For fish or special ingredients, best bet is Hanafords in Lake Placid. Nori's in Saranac is the source for organic food. Well Dressed Food in Tupper is surprisingly good specialty food location.
Restaurants
Lake Placid
For fancy dinner with amazing view go to Lake Placid Lodge. Expensive. View better than food so ask to sit on porch. Not to say food is bad but expensive for this down to earth region.
Smoke Signals for BBQ
Dack Shack for decent casual
Saranac Lake
Donnelly's serves the best soft-serve ice cream in the Adirondacks. One flavor every day, twisted with vanilla. Find it on the way into Saranac Lake from camp.
Fiddlehead Bistro for local, seasonal gourmet cuisine and a creative cocktail menu.
Hotel Saranac for good casual food and a lovely bar. Reservations are available on OpenTable.
Downhill Grill for usual, nothing fancy too much fried selection. Good beer choices.
Little Italy. Pizza in either Saranac Lake or Tupper Lake.
Left Bank. Casual, with occasional music.
Tupper Lake
Amado is a cute, new bistro-style outfit owned and operated by a wonderful Brazilian couple. Good food and wine options.
Raquette River Brewing Company has good beer. Pick up a growler or two or refill one of ours (you won't regret it). Nate recommends the caramel porter, everyone else likes the Mango Wheat. Two great new food trucks serving pizza and American casual. Usually have live music on Thursday.
